Custom restored 10ER #88092 1953 model 10ER Shopsmith by Magna Engineering Corp. San Francisco, CA. USA The machine was totally disassembled and all parts bead blasted to remove rust, paint, dirt, and aluminum corrosion. Cast iron parts were painted with a gray hammer finish paint. This paint is a hard and thick coat the is probably the most durable paint you can get next to powder coat. The locking handles, spring housing and dial, rip fence bar and saw guard bracket were re chromed. Other bare metal parts were black oxided (cold process) and coated with T-9 rust preventer. New Fafnir bearings were installed in the drive sleeve and quill and in the original 3/4 HP A. O. Smith motor. New high efficiency GoodYear belts supplied for speed changer and direct drive operation. The coveted optional speed changer gives continuously variable speed from 450 to 6600 rpm in two ranges. The instruction sheet for it is included. Even the drill chuck was disassembled, cleaned and lubricated and works like new. The bench top was replaced with new heavy yellow pine 2 x 8s and coated with several coats of clear polyuerathane. It is a complete machine with all standard accessories and documents. Over 125,000 of these machines were sold from 1947 through 1953 and plenty of parts are readily available if needed. During those years it was the best selling woodworking machine in the country.
